The only connection my branch of the Petty family has to Queen Elizabeth I is that several members of the family probably lived in England at the time of her reign. I chose to use her picture here only because she is a widely recognized symbol of Great Britain. (Oh, and I like her ruffled collar.)

Some lists begin with a ? Petty born at St. Peters at Moncroft, Norfolk, England (whatever that means) at an unknown date

The next generation sometimes listed is Thomas Petty I, who supposedly was born in 1608 at Norwich, England, was married to Katherine Morris, and died in 1663 or 1664 at Rappahannock County, Virginia. That might be true, but does not make sense when joined with the next entry, which makes Thomas II born about the same time Thomas I died. That's possible, but it isn't likely that Thomas I fathered his first son at the age of 56!

From here on, we will hope that the record is correct. Keep in mind that it is a patchwork and not a true genealogical work.

Privacy/Security Issues

I asked all of my living relatives for permission to include information about them on this site. Some did not want their information published on the web, and others preferred I not include certain types of information (for example, birth dates). In all cases I have respected their wishes.

This page is created from a variety of sources. Because I have few supporting documents, I urge serious genealogists not to copy what I have here. This list is intended mainly as information for my descendants. I am making it available to them, or to anyone else who wants to use it as a beginning point to do serious research.
