The Conestoga wagon is a good choice as a graphic for the Haning page because it was invented by Germans. My branch of the Haning family in America began in Pennsylvania, where the Conestoga wagon originated, and many family members undoubtedly traveled West in such wagons.

Matthias Wilhelm Henning is said to have been the father of
Matthew Haning

Matthew Haning was born about 1730 in Germany
He married Margaret McKinney (Peggy) about 1783 in Washington County, Pennsylvania
Matthew died about 1807 in Alexander Township, Athens, Ohio

Matthew Haning, Jr. was one of several children of Matthew and Peggy

Matthew Haning, Jr. was born in 1760
He married Mary Cuylinger
Died about 1837 in Athens County, Ohio

Aaron Haning, Sr. was a son of Matthew and Mary

Aaron Haning, Sr. was born about 1790 in New Jersey
He married Rachel Pierce
He died in 1896 in Montague County, Texas or Red River County, Texas

Marion Franklin Haning was a son of Aaron Haning, Jr. and his 3rd wife, Mary Jane Hamilton

Aaron Haning, Jr. was born about 1830 in Meigs County, Ohio

Aaron Haning, Jr. died about 1872

Marion Franklin Haning was born July 4, 1865 in Montague County, Texas
He married "Annie" Davis - the facts are in doubt here but it is my belief that they were married in Siloam Springs, Arkansas on January 1, 1888
"Frank" died in Seminole County, Oklahoma on April 20, 1958
"Annie" died in Seminole County, Oklahoma on August 1, 1959

Mary Evaline (Eva) Haning was a daughter of Frank and Annie

Mary Evaline Haning was born in Cherokee City, Indian Territory on October 2, 1890
"Eva" married William Henry Brooks (date and location to come)
Eva died in Wewoka, Oklahoma on March 16, 1970
Will died in Ardmore, Oklahoma on August 4, 1958

HANING BOOKS

Two books have been written about the Haning ancestors. They Are:

Seven Up For Breakfast

Lillian Chantry Haning 1981

AND

Matthew Haning and His Descendants

James Leslie Haning 1987

This page is created from a variety of sources. Because I have few supporting documents, I urge serious genealogists not to copy what I have here. This list is intended mainly as information for my descendants. I am making it available to them, or to anyone else who wants to use it as a beginning point to do serious research.
